Don’t let the bed bugs bite.

by Administrator 25. August 2016 08:32

In recent years bed bugs have made resurgence. These small, nocturnal blood-feeding insects can seriously harm your business by upsetting guests. Bed bugs need blood in order to reproduce and complete their life cycle. Bed bug bites usually result in red welts that will itch. The bites themselves are not painful and typically are not felt. Frequent feeding can disrupt peoples sleep patterns. Around 27 agents of human diseases have been found in bed bugs, none of these agents reproduce or multiply within bed bugs, and very few survive for any length of time inside a bed bug.

What do they look like? Adult bed bugs are about ¼ inch long, oval, reddish-brown, and wingless. Their body is very flat, and they possess long, slender legs and antennae. They have a long, segmented proboscis (beak) that extends forward when the bug eats. At rest, the proboscis lies beneath the body and projects backwards between the legs. Immature bed bugs are known either as "larvae" or "nymphs." They resemble the adults, but are smaller and less pigmented.

Bed bugs typically hide during the daytime and are active at night. Because they are flat, they are able to find a wide variety of places to hide. Typical hiding places include beneath loose flooring, behind loose wallpaper, inside box springs or in mattresses, and in upholstered furniture. One common hiding place in hotel rooms is behind bed headboards that are fastened to the wall and another is behind moldings just above the floor. Bed bugs may also hide behind inside appliances. However, sites that have surfaces consisting of plaster, stone, and metal typically do not harbor bed bugs.

Training your staff to check for bed bugs is strongly recommended in order to identify an infestation. A professional pest control company should be contacted immediately if an infestation is found. Bed bugs can usually be found if mattresses show small reddish brown spots. Mattress seams should be examined for brown spots that could be bed bug feces, for shed skins, and for active bed bugs. Cracks and crevices should be checked. Sites to be searched also include behind headboards, furniture seams, draperies, floor moldings, if wallpaper is loose, and behind picture frames and baseboards, especially those located near the beds.

We have a few options to avoid costly treatments such as mattress and box spring covers and sprays that can be found here http://www.goavm.com/bed-bug-protection-c-533.aspx  and http://www.goavm.com/protect-a-bed-c-243.aspx. Our various mattress and box spring encasements provide protection from allowing bed bugs to penetrate and hide in your beds. If you find bed bugs in your property the 707 Bed Bug Spray will destroy them. The products are designed to protect you from infestation possibility. These products will also help you to avoid costly treatments provided by a pest control service. The peace of mind in knowing that you’re protected from bed bugs is something that in the hospitality industry you can’t afford to risk. Your guests will be happy and feel more secure in your hotel knowing that you’re protecting them as well, which will generate you repeat business.

The Hospitality Experience from a Guest’s Perspective.

by Administrator 5. August 2016 10:11

Last week my family and I spent two nights in two different hotel chains on a trip to visit family. Here are some of my thoughts that I had during my stay.

Having worked with these products I have become more familiar with the options and amenities that hotels provide for their guests. Overall I was very pleased with our experience.

The lobby areas and hallways were very clean and tidy in both hotels. They each shared welcoming guest reception counters each had very helpful and pleasant staff. The maid carts http://www.goavm.com/laundry-maid-carts-c-140.aspx  were organized very well and most of the products on them looked new and fresh. Having seen some raggedy looking carts in the past at other hotels it’s very reassuring to a guest to see that the people cleaning your rooms have fresh products to do so. Perception really can make your experience.

One major difference in the two hotels that we stayed at was that one of them had a complimentary continental breakfast bar, while the other had a restaurant/bar inside of the hotel. I have to admit that personally I like the continental breakfast option http://www.goavm.com/food-beverage-c-267.aspx because when you’re on the road, as we were, you wind up eating at a lot of restaurants/fast food throughout the trip. To be able to sit down and have your choice of breakfast included in the cost of your room is fantastic. On the flip side of that the food from the other hotel’s restaurant chef was stellar and provided an awesome experience.

The rooms were satisfactory in both hotels. The bedding & linens http://www.goavm.com/bedding-linen-c-52.aspx were clean and comfortable. In one of the hotel rooms I noticed that the facial tissue http://www.goavm.com/facial-tissue-c-111.aspx was not stocked although there was a slot for it built into the counter. The amenities www.goavm.com/amenity-lines-c-27.aspx  were clearly displayed and of good quality. The particular amenities that these hotels used were higher end and very nice to use.

Since one hotel offered breakfast, they did not have in-room coffee but instead offered it in the lobby. http://www.goavm.com/lobby-c-395.aspx I was also pleasantly surprised to find that this particular hotel offered tea in their lobby as well. The other hotel offered in-room I cup coffee with condiment kits http://www.goavm.com/in-room-c-328.aspx.

In one of the rooms they had a cabinet http://www.goavm.com/room-furniture-c-558.aspx  that the fridge sat in. Consequently my Dad had trouble locating the Fridge until I pointed it out to him. In the other room it was clearly visible.

The final thing that I noticed on our trip was that all of us had smartphones that needed to be charged each night. The first room had enough outlets for us to all charge our phones and laptop while we stayed. The second room did not have enough outlets for us all to charge at the same time without unplugging something from the room. The nightstand recharge program would be a very convenient solution. http://www.goavm.com/accessories-c-679.aspx

We had a very satisfactory experience on our trip. I’d definitely stay in those hotels again. When I asked the front desk where they bought their supplies, they said from AVM. www.goavm.com

Extended Stay hotels place in the hospitality industry.

by Administrator 21. July 2016 10:18

Extended Stay are hotels designed especially for longer stays with studios and rooms that feature fully-equipped kitchens and plenty of work space and other amenities that you wouldn’t find in your typical hotel room. From on the premise coin-operated laundry facilities open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to rooms with refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, coffee maker, cooking utensils, dishes, and cutlery. The Extended Stay hotels are ready to cater to your needs for a longer period of time than a standard hotel.

Most people choose to stay in an Extended Stay hotel when they are traveling for work, for school, or need a temporary place to live while they are in between homes or apartments. There’s an 8+2+1 lodging rule that says 8 months or greater: apartment. 2 weeks to 8 months: Extended Stay hotel. Less than 1 week: full-service hotel.

Along with all of the amenities that hotels provide, here at AVM we carry the amenities that Extended Stay properties need to operate efficiently for the demand of their guests. For the kitchens, we carry both single pack dish detergents as well as multiuse detergents http://www.goavm.com/dishsoap-dishwasher-detergent-c-382.aspx. We have paper towels used to wipe down surfaces used by the guest. http://www.goavm.com/vista-household-kitchen-roll-towels-p-7531.aspx. For deeper cleaning we carry Bar Mop Towels http://www.goavm.com/16x19-ribbed-32-oz-gold-strip-bar-mop-towels-p-2589.aspx  to dry up spills. Small appliances, such as toasters http://www.goavm.com/toasters-c-404.aspx or can openers and blenders http://www.goavm.com/kitchen-items-c-497.aspx are also features of extended stays that we offer.

For coin-operated laundry rooms with vending machines we offer detergent pouches such as http://www.goavm.com/2-oz-gentle-clean-laundry-detergent-pouches-for-vending-machines-p-6864.aspx or http://www.goavm.com/ultra-surf-laundry-detergent-p-250.aspx. To keep clothes fresh and soft we’ve got Snuggle Fabric Sheets http://www.goavm.com/snuggle-fabric-dryer-sheets-p-234.aspx.

We’re prepared to supply you with everything that you need to keep your property running smoothly. Visit us at www.goavm.com to purchase your brand standards and to save thousands of dollars on our thousands of supplies.

How to go green in the hospitality industry and save green from AVM!

by Administrator 6. July 2016 01:07

You hear it everywhere “Go green” for the sake of our environment. The resources of our world are limited and we need to be thinking about the long term effects that the choices we make today will have on our planet. Did you know that by going green in the hospitality industry you can also save yourself some green money as well? Here are a few ways to keep your money in your pocket long term while also helping to save the limited resources we use on a day to day basis.

First thing’s first. What does it mean to go green? You can start by offering recycling stations and bins in and around your rooms, lobby, and high-traffic areas. This cuts back on waste and by recycling products we keep unnecessary items out of landfills. We have several options for these bins that can be viewed here http://www.goavm.com/recycle-containers-c-582.aspx

Another way to go green is to purchase products that are made from recycled materials. Plastics that can be recycled are first sorted, shredded and rid of impurities like paper. The shreds are then melted and formed into pellets, which can be made into other products. Our strong, made in the USA Can Liners are created through this process. http://www.goavm.com/can-liners-c-81.aspx

We also sell lines of products that are designed to be eco-friendly by saving water and energy usage. Sunbeam has a product line called GreenSenseTM which is a line of eco-conscious amenities for the socially responsible, sot-conservative hotelier. Every GreenSenseTM product has been designed to save energy or water or both. With these products you save money while saving the planet. http://www.goavm.com/green-sense-shower-head-white-p-1047.aspx

Our bio plates and bowls are made from Sugar Cane which is biodegradable and eco-friendly. When looking into breakfast area options, it is important to look into reducing the amount of Styrofoam that goes into our landfills and although most CFC’s have been reduced from those products, they still contain bi-products that though less destructive to our ozone still have some harmful effects on it.http://www.goavm.com/9quot-biodegradable-plates-p-7838.aspx

Niagara offers Stealth Toilet systems that will dramatically cut your water usage and lower your bills. Stealth System combines five high-efficiency products for a powerful water and energy saving solution. The Stealth System includes the EPA WaterSense certified ultra-high-efficiency (UHET) Stealth 0.8 GPF toilet. The system is supplemented by a high-efficiency showerhead and aerator that utilize three unique flow options, a contemporary dual-spray kitchen aerator, and an innovative lead-free aerator that collectively deliver unrivaled savings. These toilets are of high-efficiency so they use less water than the common toilet. In the long run installing these units will save you thousands of dollars over time. http://www.goavm.com/toilet-accessories-c-457.aspx

We should be conscious of the world that we leave behind to future generations. By taking some small steps we can have a huge impact on the future of our planet. The carbon footprint that we leave behind today should be a step in the right direction.

Protect Your Guests and Yourself with Speyeguard®

by Administrator 19. April 2016 09:40

Last month the Erin Andrews case caused quite a stir with Hotels and Hoteliers. Andrews was awarded $55 million in her civil lawsuit over the secret recording and release of a video showing her naked during a hotel stay in Nashville, TN. The sportscaster’s original suit asked for $75 million from the owner and operator of the hotel where she was staying, and the stalker who tampered with her room’s peephole to record the video. The jury put the fault 51% on the stalker and 49% on the West End Hotel Partners, which owns and operates that Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University. The hotel group was asked to pay out more than $26 million. How can you protect your guests and yourself from situations like this?

The Speyeguard® stationary cover is the most advanced peephole security solution for the hospitality industry. The cover is ADA compliant, easy to operate, durable, customizable and also includes a warranty. The cover installs right on top of the existing peephole and safeguards against external spying and tampering. It operates with a slide mechanism. Guests simply slide the cover up, look through the viewer and release. The cover automatically slides back down into the closed position. To view the products at our website visit http://www.goavm.com/satin-gray-stationary-peephole-cover-p-7670.aspx

There are currently products like reverse peephole viewers that exist and are easily obtainable by anyone. These viewers, when placed over the outward facing side of a peephole, allow the user to view what’s on the other side by realigning the otherwise unviewable lenses. With products like these readily available it’s best to ensure your guests privacy is well protected and preserved with the Speyeguard® covers. Privacy, sense of security, and peace of mind are invaluable for your guests. A guest that feels safe under your care means that they will be more likely to stay at your hotel more frequently. It’s up to you to provide a safe environment for the guest. Visit www.goavm.com or call us at 1-800-218-3995 to speak to our knowledgeable staff about the peephole covers.

GoAVM.com goes mobile.

by Administrator 13. April 2016 11:15

We live in a mobile world. Nearly everything these days can be accessed directly from your mobile device. Everything from Bank Accounts to Parking Apps can be downloaded directly to your phone. Here at AVM we’ve been hard at work on our website developing a mobile friendly design so that you can order at any time from wherever you are. Whether you’re working from a tablet or mobile device our responsive site is easy to use. Like Bob Dylan said, “The times they are a-changin”, and it’s up to us to change with them.

At www.goavm.com you’ll first notice the new clean design. All of your favorite features are still right at your fingertips making it easy for you to place your order online. Begin by logging in or if you happen to be a new customer, registering with our website. You’ll see the “Favorite list” tab that you can enter commonly ordered items into to save for making your future orders easier and efficient. You can still use the “wishlist” for items that you normally don’t have to order but know that you’ll need to soon while browsing our site. Let’s refresh how to optimally use these features.

The first of these options that we’d like to highlight is the “Add to Favorites” list. Any products that you frequently order should be added to this list so that the next time you need to order these products all you’ll have to do is select it from your favorites list in order to “Add to Cart”. These Items will remain in your “My Favorites List” until you remove them from the list and can be accessed anytime via the “My Favorite List” tab at the top the webpage.

There may be some products that you see as you are browsing that you might not need at the moment, but will soon. For these items, you should click “Add to Wish List.” When you are ready to purchase these products, they will be easy to find, and you can simply click “Add to Cart.” These items will then disappear from the “My Wish List”. Utilizing these two lists will save you your valuable time by speeding up your purchasing process.

You’ll also notice that the drop down menus open up into categories with images as well as dropdown lists. You can navigate through our website using either the image links or dropdown menu. If you’re working on mobile or tablet the dropdown menu will be the way to go. On mobile or tablet you’ll notice two drop down menus. One that lists our product categories and one that navigates to different functions of our site. The third item you’ll notice is your shopping cart. The search function is also available on mobile, tablet, & desktop versions. This is the place to insert any keyword searches or items. You’ll notice that when scrolling through items the images appear large on your screen and have three icons beneath each image. The first image is of a shopping cart, if you click on this image it will add this item into your shopping cart. The second image is of a gift or present, if you click on this image the item will be added to your wish list. The third image is of a heart and this will add the item into your favorites list.

We’re happy to have unveiled the mobile friendly version of our website, and as always our knowledgeable CSR’s are ready to help you with your ordering as well.

Introducing Beekman 1802

by Administrator 25. January 2016 02:31

One way to stand out from the crowd in the hospitality industry is to offer great guest amenities. Here at AVM we’re constantly on the lookout to improve the amenities we provide for you and your guests. We’ve recently brought in some new amenity lines such as Beekman 1802, Eco Fresh Naturals, & Serene Elements.  Let’s take a closer in depth look at the story behind Beekman 1802, and where it comes from.

Beekman 1802: for city people who dream of the country and for country people who dream of the city. Artisan goods that combine sophisticated city design with natural country goods. The “Fresh Air” collection will have your guests smelling like a bright spring morning in the country.  Features & benefits subtle fragrances & formulas gentle enough for everyday use and of course there are no nasty ingredients. No parabens, no petroleum, no mineral oil, no diethanolamine, no paraffin, no banned phthalates. (We don't even know what half those things are!) The collection is made with purified water, and is cruelty free, no animal testing. http://www.goavm.com/beekman-1802-c-1782.aspx

What makes the Beekman 1802 brand so intriguing? The story behind Brent & Josh’s farm is pretty extraordinary. They purchased the historic 60 acre Beekman 1802 Farm in 2007. Originally as just a weekend getaway from their hectic NYC lives, the farm became their lifeline after both men lost their jobs within one month of each other during the recession of 2008. Faced with possible foreclosure, the pair made a decision – if they were going to save their farm, they would have to make it profitable. After taking in a neighboring farmer and his herd of beloved dairy goats, they began producing soaps and cheese. As other neighbors taught them how to farm, they shared their city-honed skills – starting a website and Mercantile. Brand founders Brent and Josh were the winners of The Amazing Race for Season 21 in 2012. They have also been featured with their own television show called “The Fabulous Beekman Boys”.  The Beekman 1802 brand has grown to include a full line of soaps and skin care products, clothing, gardening items, home wares, and even The Beekman 1802 Heirloom cookbook. Beekman products have also recently been featured by Target stores.  The amenity line was originally introduced by the boutique-inspired hotels Andaz Wall Street and Andaz 5th Avenue in New York. The Beekman 1802 amenity line was designed as a modern, yet understated take on luxury. It includes four elegantly appointed bottles for the liquid products, as well as two goat milk bath bars dressed in a classic white wrapping. Product packaging is 100% recycled material. They’ve also got a pretty nifty little Live Goat Cam page on their website where you can watch the baby goats live on the farm.

Whether you are looking to upgrade your amenities or to purchase your brand standard amenities, we have several lines for you to view at http://www.goavm.com/amenity-lines-c-27.aspx. As always our knowledgeable customer service representatives here at AVM are happy to help you with choosing the right options for you.

Flooring your guests with our hospitality flooring options.

by Administrator 24. December 2015 01:37

First impressions go a long way with your guests. A great place to start a good first impression is with your floors. There are now many options to choose from when it comes to your flooring. Whether you’re looking for carpet, tiles, vinyl, or hardwood floors, AVM has you covered from the bottom up.

The flooring that you choose serves to create a mood for the guest. Checking into a hotel with a pleasing décor can create a sense of calm or excitement depending on what type of emotion you wish to convey with your lobby. Comfort is an important emotion because opinions are formed based on how a guest feels. Flooring provides you with an opportunity to enhance your overall image. The use of your space should be taken into account as some options are made to withstand heavy foot traffic, luggage carts, maid carts etc. Guests look for cleanliness in the hotels that they choose to frequent and choosing the right options will help to give the overall presentation that will stick with guests and keep them coming back to your hotel.

Carpet has been tried and true in the hospitality industry. We offer some beautiful designs that can really make your rooms and high traffic areas pop with color. There are now full pattern repeats for those who want a look of having artwork on the floor http://www.goavm.com/carpets-c-537.aspx. We also offer traditional solid color patterns and more. Some of the downsides to carpet are that it needs to be replaced more often and cleaning takes more time and care.

We also offer carpet tiles which are easy to install and to replace if part of your flooring becomes stained. Carpet tiles serve to be an efficient use of material. Because the units are smaller than in large rolls, there is a great reduction of waste during installation. Maintenance and replacement can be easily done by the hotel staff. The tiles also allow you to use different patterns to create an upscale design for the areas that you choose to install them. http://www.goavm.com/carpet-tiles-c-1757.aspx

One of the newest and most exciting options is vinyl planks http://www.goavm.com/vinyl-flooring-c-743.aspx. We have many great colors and wood patterns to choose from and also offer different styles depending on the traffic that will be in the area. Some vinyl planks offer a wear layer that will withstand heavier traffic. Cleaning the vinyl planks is much faster and more efficient than having to vacuum or spot clean spills on carpets. Vinyl is also up to twice as durable which saves you money in the long run.

For the absolute in luxury we also offer Hardwood flooring for your public areas and guestrooms. Like the vinyl planks cleaning the hardwood is fast and efficient. Guests also perceive wood flooring and vinyl planks as cleaner.  There are fewer styles than with vinyl planks, but for an authentic luxury look and feel, hardwood is the way to go. http://www.goavm.com/wood-flooring-c-744.aspx

There are many factors that you should consider when choosing which type of flooring you’d like to have for your hotel. Humidity in warmer climates means that carpets can retain moisture. In cooler climates guests desire the warmer feel of carpets.  As always our knowledgeable customer service representatives here at AVM are happy to help you with choosing the right options for you.
